Minecraft Ore Locations

This was made for 1.20 originally, based on a random article for personal reference. It was modified once based on personal experience and looking at a reference chart, then modified again based on the Minecraft Wiki itself. Apparently ore generation was changed on 1.17, 1.18, and 1.19? (I thought it was only changed once for 1.20 originally.)

Overworld

Ore Generation Range Best Level
Emerald Y 320 to -16 Y 236
Coal Y 256 to 136; 192 to 0 Y 136 45
Copper Y 112 to -16 Y 48 43
Zinc (Create) Y 34
Iron Y 56 to -24; 72 to -64; 80 to 256 Y 16 14
Lapis Lazuli Y 64 to -64; 32 to -32 Y -1 -2
Gold Y 32 to -64; -48 to -64; 256 to 32 Y -16 -18 (32+ in Badlands)
Diamond Y 14 to -64 Y -54*
Redstone Y 15 to -64; -32 to -64 Y -59**

* Diamond is supposedly best found at -59, but this subjects you to too much lava & in at least 1 test I've done, led to no diamonds at all.
** It's probably better to mine at diamond level to avoid lava.

Nether

Ancient Debris Y 8 to 119 Y 15, common up to Y 23
Nether Gold Y 10 to 117 Y 15, common up to Y 97
Nether Quartz Y 10 to 117 N/A
